June is Audiobook Month & Audiobook Week (We’re Listening)

YOU GUYS, YOU GUYS! Tomorrow is the first day of JUNE! You know what that means, right? That’s right, June is Audiobook Month! There’s all sorts of fun stuff going on this month, like Going Public: In Shorts (which I’ll be participating in on the 11th) and Sync. ALSO, there’s Audiobook Week, June 17-21.

This year marks the 4th annual Audiobook Week! I can’t believe I’ve done this now for four years, seriously. It is a lot of work, but I have had quite a few people tell me that Audiobook Week is what got them into audiobooks in the first place, and that keeps me going - particularly when those people then dive into the format wholeheartedly.

Unfortunately, I have to cut back just a tiny bit on Audiobook Week this year, because I’m busier than I’ve ever been before, so here’s how things will work. There will still be a daily discussion topic (prompts below), each of which will have a linky for you to leave your answers. Instead of me posting an audiobook review every day and including a linky, however, I will have a SINGLE sticky post with a linky for ALL reviews posted during that week. I will probably post 2-3 myself. I am still on the fence about prizes, I may still contact some audio publishers after they’re all home from BEA, but I haven’t fully decided yet. If I do, prizes will continue to be awarded randomly to participants. The more you participate, the better your chances.

The topics

Monday: 2012-2013, Your Audiobook Year
Are you new to audiobooks in the last year? Have you been listening to them forever but discovered something new this year? Favorite titles? New times/places to listen? This is your chance to introduce yourself and your general listening experience.

Tuesday: How do You Choose Your Audiobooks?
How do you decide what you’ll listen to? Do you mostly listen, or split time between listening and reading? Particularly if you split time, how do you decide what you’ll consume in audio and what in print?

Wednesday: Mid-week Audiobook Week Meme
This will not be up until the morning of Wednesday, June 19th, but it will be short and fast, so check in and join the fun.

Thursday: Audiobook Tasks
What do you do while you listen? Any particular tasks or games that you find amazing for audio time?

Friday: Finding audiobooks
Where do you learn about great audiobook titles? Buy your audiobooks? Share your secrets with the rest of us! We’d particularly love to know what narrators or publishers are active in social media or do a great job communicating with listeners.
