The clearest sign of demonic possession was a gyrating pelvis. Anyone caught dong a seventeenth-century version of Elvis Presley - no matter how many cripples he healed - would have been drenched with holy water immediately and would, most likely, have responded with hisses and howls.
-Mistress of the Vatican: The True Story of Olimpia Maidalchini, the Secret Female Pope by Eleanor Herman
Very interesting teaser! So much so that I looked the book up on GoodReads and put it on my to-read list. How are you liking the book?

I think it is pretty good, I’m well over 3/4 of the way done. It has a bit of a larger scope than just Olympia, but that is mostly to provide background of 17th century Europe. It is making me interested to finally get around to reading the other book of hers that is on my TBR pile, “Sex With Kings” about royal mistresses.
Great teaser!
OMG! That made me laugh out loud — I realize that people were probably killed for that, but too funny.
That is a FANTASTIC teaser!
Here’s mine.
I’ve had an autographed copy of this book on my shelf since I had the chance to meet the author last year (I posted a video of her on my blog) - I’m dying to read it!!!

Ha! Great, great teaser. The little tidbit of ridiculous information, and the demonic possession bit…good stuff!

I have (and I do, excited to see it!). They’re totally different, really. This one is non-fiction and, although they called Olympia the ‘female pope,’ that is only because she pretty much ran the Vatican and the Papal States through her brother-in-law Innocent X in the 17th century.
Great teaser…I’m going to have to pick this one up. I’m always fascinated by church history. Especially the rarely talked about stuff. Thanks for bringing this book to our attention.

I think my teaser goes along with yours quite well:
It’s from “My Splendid Concubine,” set in 19th century China.
Only eunuchs were allowed to live and work in the Forbidden City, and there were thousands to serve the Emperor, his wives and concubines. About
fifty thousand boys voluntarily castrated themselves each year.
A gyrating pelvis, huh? Who knew that demons gyrated!
My teaser is here.
Ha - what a good tease!!
