I’m writing this in the wee hours of Sunday morning (possibly eating oatmeal chocolate chip cookies), having finally given up on sleep after feeding some babies. It has suddenly turned to fall in Chicago, having gone from almost 80 degrees on Thursday to highs in the low 50s. As I’m writing it is 38 and feels like 34, and nothing in our 10 day forecast gets above the mid-60s. I AM liking the cooler weather after our crazy summer, but I’m not quite read for highs in the low 50s, I’d prefer mid 60s a bit longer. We’re off to the pumpkin patch today, though, and at least the weather will be festive.
We had a trip to the zoo this week before the weather changed and it was just lovely. 70 degrees and sunny, nobody there because everyone’s in school, and happened to be a free admission day.
On the book front, I have spent most of this week reading JK Rowling’s new book, The Casual Vacancy. I know a lot of people just aren’t that into it, but I’m loving the small town politics of it all, for all that none of the characters are particularly likeable. I can see how its appeal is much more limited than the Harry Potter books, though. I stayed up much too late reading it most nights this week, but it is a slower read than her others, so I still have at least 150 pages to go. I’m determined to finish it today or – at the latest – tomorrow morning, though. Here’s what I DID finish this week:
And here’s what I reviewed this week:
