A Good American by Alex George, narrated by Gibson Frazier
Published in audio by Penguin Audio; published in print by Amy Einhorn/Putnam Books, both imprints of Penguin
As I’m sure you all know, I really adored Alex George’s A Good American. George’s story is so engaging that when I was offered the opportunity to review the audiobook for AudioFile Magazine I jumped at the chance.
As you can see from my AudioFile review, narrator Gibson Frazier absolutely does justice to George’s epic family history. I must admit that I wasn’t immediately sold on Frazier is a narrator. I’m a sucker for a silky, sonorous voice, but that isn’t really Frazier’s style. He is, however, an exquisite storyteller and – although it is cliche – brings the characters to vivid life.
The bad news is you must now decide whether to read the book or listen to the audio; the good news is that both choices are good ones. Highly recommended.
