The Night Bookmobile by Audrey Niffenegger – Bookstore Review

The Night Bookmobile by Audrey Niffenegger
Published by Abrams ComicArts

You may know that I <3 Audrey Niffenegger, including her latest novel, “Her Fearful Symmetry,” about which I seem to be in the minority. I have also been growing to <3 graphic novels as of late, so Niffenegger’s newest book, “The Night Bookmobile” seems like a perfect fit for me – even more so the way that Margie describes it in her latest review.

I love NIffenegger, too!!!! It took me a little while before I liked Her Fearful Symmetry, but I do like it now…I had to really digest it, especially because it was so different from Time Traveler’s Wife. This one looks interesting!

  • I really want to read this one. I still haven’t read Her Fearful Symmetry for some reason.

I actually keep her books on my Michigan shelf since that’s where she was born even though I know she’s lived in Chicago forever. 😉

  • As you know, I was messing with this book when we were at that book store in Chicago. It has great artwork. The whole graphic novel thing has been a fun adventure for me this year. (And minority or not, I also loved Her Fearful Symmetry.)

  • I liked Her Fearful Symmetry a lot. I didn’t like the twins very much but then I don’t think we were supposed to like them. I’d like to see a book about Martin and his wife… but I digress!

I’m looking forward to The Night Bookmobile and I find I’m liking graphic novels (now that I know that a graphic novel means illustrated and not… ummm… graphic!)

  • I’m reading Her Fearful Symmetry at the moment, and am quite liking it. I think because I’ve left it so long and seen so many, “but it’s not like TTW” comments that the fact that it isn’t doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

I only heard about this one in the last few days and I have to say I’m really wanting to grab a copy!

  • I saw a bit of this on the Shelf Awareness post and thought it looked magical!

  • I have “Her Fearful Symmetry” in my to-read pile but haven’t gotten to it yet. This new one looks really interesting – I might have to find a copy! It looks to be pretty different from what I normally would pick up.

  • While I didn’t care for Her Fearful Symmetry, I highly recommend Niffenegger’s The Three Incestuous Sisters, one of her visual novels. I found it strangely dark and disturbing enough to be entertaining without going overboard. It sits on my mother’s coffee table and the members of her bridge groups carefully avoid it – she is sure the title alone is off-putting enough for them

But I grew up on Edward Gorey.

  • i have ‘her fearful…’ in my tbr pile and just haven’t gotten around to it. as for graphic novels, i’ve only read one so far and did end up liking it after initial struggles with the format. had no idea that niffenegger even put out a gn–thanks for the tip–i may give it a shot.
