Okay, that wasn’t totally true, we HAVE had internet this week, but we have purposely had it off most of the day, 11 am to 8 pm. We’re trying to get our condo ready to sell and there is a lot of work to do on it. We figured that if the internet wasn’t available to us if we’re home during the day or when we get home from work, we’d get more work done. It is actually working really well, and I almost want to keep it up. Without so much of time on Twitter and futzing around the internet, I have been using ALL of my time more efficiently, both online and off. Daniel and I have got some really great playing time in, I’ve made dinner, as well as cooking myself breakfast and lunch, I have all my reviews scheduled for next week, and I got in a ton of reading. Here’s what I finished this week:
Don’t tell my husband, since he came up with it, but I think this ‘no internet from 11 to 8′ was really a great idea.

It is a great idea! I should probably try something like that.

I’m sure I’d be really productive, but I don’t know if I would have the willpower to turn off the computer for that long per day! I’m so impressed that you did it.

I don’t have the willpower either. My husband changed something in our network settings that turns it off automatically, and I don’t know how to change it back, lol.

Okay, that makes more sense. All it would take is one news rumor, and I’d be logging onto Twitter to confirm it.

I generally get limited internet time just by the fact that I have to share my computer with a 15yo girl! I get a lot more done when she’s around the house using it. You got a lot of reading done!

Taking a break from the internet sounds like a great idea – it worked really well for you, you got to do a lot of reading! When You Reach Me sounds great, I heard a lot of good about it.

Wow, hats off to you, but I’m not sure I could do it. If I’m home I am always on here. Even if I’m busy doing something, I just have to pop in and check on things!

That does sound like a great idea! It looks like you read some great books!

Fantastic! I’ve been trying to turn off the computer at about 6:00 pm so I’m not tempted to be on at night. I’ve gotten more reading done and my house is cleaner. My next goal is to check Twitter less often during the workday.

I have been thinking of doing something like this too. I spend entirely too much time online.

I’m always so much more productive when I turn off the tv and the computer. Ridiculously more efficient. Good for you for giving it a try.

That is a great idea! I know I’ve limited how much TV I watch these days, all in an effort to become more productive and better balance everything I need to do. I’ll have to try limiting my Internet access as well. Thanks for sharing!

When I first moved into my new apartment I didn’t have internet for the first week, and while I went into a little bit of withdrawal I did seem to have so much more time for doing other things — cooking, cleaning, working out, and of course reading
I sit in front of a computer for 8 hours at work everyday, and then come home and sit in front of a computer some more, so I feel like “unplugging” myself from time to time would be a good idea, although it’s so hard to work up the will power! Congrats on surviving a week!

Wow that’s great! I bet you could get a lot done! If only my job didn’t make me sit at a computer all day
I’m much better at the weekends except in the morning with a cup of coffee in my hand!

The Boleyn Wife looks great! Can’t wait to see your review and what you think of Speak.

I don’t think I could do that, mostly because I don’t do my internet/blogging stuff at the same time everday. I do it when the mood strikes me. So before 11 or after 8 I may not want to blog but I might have wanted to earlier.
Glad you got lots done.

No internet?! *panting for air… panic setting in…* well, at least it’s only for 9 hours a day. You can get that back while hubs sleeps.
I’ve been a bit away from it the last couple days, too. It’s hard to do much in the way of reading, cleaning, and blogging while the kids are chattering in my ears.

The Weight of Heaven sounds good, I like books that take place in India so that’s another plus.
I am thinking of cutting back time on the computer and my blog. Anything for more reading time

Since I can’t seem to drag myself away from the computer, maybe could stop by and clean my house?
Good for you two for being productive!

WOW! I’ve done the no-internet thing in the past when I needed to get something done, and probably will in the future as I get more and more immersed in dissertation writing. Looks like you had a fantastic week, though!

I totally know the feeling? I’ve been mostly off Twitter this past week, and feel like I’ve gotten so much more done and used my time so much better! I’ll still continue to use Twitter, but I might turn it off during the day.
