I read all types of fiction including Christian fiction and enjoy it all. However, when I read Christian fiction, I do like the spiritual aspect to be introduced early on and continue to be fortified as the book proceeds. I agree that this book did not give me the gradual workup and crescendo I enjoy. I have read most of Dekker's material and usually enjoy the books.

It's been a while since I've read this book, so I can't remember the god/devil part you're referring to. I enjoyed it, though. The Noxema was the hook that caught me. It kept me on edge. I don't remember ever worrying that any of the main characters would die, but I usually assume they don't. Still, it didn't keep me riveted like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, either.

I'm totally with you! You said what I thought and felt about this book better than I did, I think. At least yours is more succinct :-). It was just annoying with the "three things, no four" stuff every time you turned around, and then it just got weird at the end. Like Carrie, I thought "Three" was fantastic, but this one was.. meh.

I passed it on to my mom, who said she had been meaning to buy it, so I'm wondering how she liked it.

This review made me laugh. I listened to this on audio, and besides enjoying the detailed portrait of the mc while he was at war I really didn't think anything else about it. I also don't know that I was expecting much so in hat way I guess I got what I expected.

I agree with Amy's comment. While Dekker has written Christian fiction in the past, this would fall under his thriller category. I'm sorry you didn't like this one. I hope it doesn't stop you from reading some of his other work. It's quite impressive!

I keep hearing great things about Dekker, but I've never read him. I'll take your suggestion and start with something else if I read him. If you want a good thriller, however, I'm a huge fan of Robert Ellis (City of Fire and The Lost Witness).

That isn't my definition normally, doesn't he normally write Christian Fiction? I just found the ending to be really heavy handed with the religious imagery, and all of the sudden, too.

Didn't know Dekker was christian fiction either. I don't read many thrillers but this one looked like it had promise. Sorry it didn't work out.
