Library Loot

library-loot Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Eva and Marg that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library.

Well, last week I admitted I have a problem with the library.  I take out more books than I could read every week.  I think that if I wasn’t reading anything from my shelves and any review books I could probably get to most of my library books before they were due, but between review books and the Clear Off Your Shelves challenge, library books don’t make up more than a 1/3 of my reading, which is why taking another 9 books out of the library book this week is ridiculous.  At least I’m keeping the circulation numbers up!

At least this time it wasn’t simply a case of ‘my eyes are bigger than my reading time’ gluttony.  Many of the books I took out were so I will be able to join in the 20 Minute Book club on That’s How I Blog.

shutter island wednesday witch sweethearts the little stranger

Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane for Jenn’s show on December 1st
The Wednesday Witch by Ruth Chew for Dawn’s show on December 8th
Sweethearts by Sara Zarr (audio) for Meg’s show on December 15th
The Little Stranger by Sarah Water (audio) s for Rebecca’s show on  January 12

I wish I could say I’d been restrained and that is all I had taken out, but alas that would be a lie.  I also got all of these books:

the lacuna raising a reader daughter of time after leviathan

The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver
Raising a Reader by Jennie Nash
The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey (audio)
After by Amy Efaw
Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld

Have you read any of these?  Did you get anything good from the library this week?

  • Good lord, you’ve got a great loot this week! I’m especially excited to read Waters’ book myself. And Leviathan!

  • I haven’t read any of them, but I’d like to read Shutter Island because I really liked Mystic River. Carl enjoyed Leviathan.

  • I want to read The Lacuna. I almost got it the other day.
Yay for Twenty Minute Book Club! I’m glad you’re joining in when you can, they are so much fun. Looking forward to you and your mom on the show.

  • I’m a little nervous about The Lacuna. I’ve seen negative reviews, and in this case I just don’t want to hear it! I totally LOVED The Little Stranger (on audio!). I didn’t want it to end. I think Sarah Waters is something else.

  • I haven’t yet read THE WEDNESDAY WITCH, I had to request it from my library today (it’s out of print). The other book Nicole and I will be talking about is WHAT THE WITCH LEFT, also by Ruth Chew. This is one I remember so vividly from my childhood, it was a real favorite. I hope my re-read lives up to the expectations!

Enjoy all your Library Loot, Jen!

  • I read The Daughter of Time a long while ago, and I remember really liking it. I’d actually like to read it again, especially after reading A Secret Alchemy this summer (also about the War of the Roses).

Also, I’ve got The Lacuna on my TBR pile… I think that’s going to be one of the books that comes with me to my parents’ over Thanksgiving.

  • After is amazing! One of the best books I have read so far this year, I would say. Raising a Reader looks really good. I’ll have to check that out.

  • I’ve been wanting to get to The Little Stranger! I’m hoping to get through a bunch of review books by the end of the year so I can get to some of these gems.

  • You have some super books out. I have read Sarah Waters (yet), but I hear such good things. I love Denis LeHane, but I haven’t read Shutter Island yet. I have Leviathan here waiting to be read.

  • Stephanie

Shutter Island is FANTASTIC! I’m sure you will love it. I convinced my non-fiction reading boyfriend to pick it up and he read it in a sitting. It’s incredibly suspenseful and Lehane is a wonderful writer. I hope you like it! :)

The nice thing about a library problem is that it’s free. :) Raising a Reader caught my eye from your loot this week! I’m a big fan of Waters too. 😀

  • YAY for Leviathan! It looks wonderful doesn’t it? I just read Carl’s review on Kathy’s blog and I’m all the more excited for it now.

  • Oh, I absolutely LOVED SHUTTER ISLAND! I can’t wait to hear what you think about it. The thing I’ve found with this book is that people either love it or hate it; very rarely have I found people indifferent. Regardless of whether you love it or hate it, I don’t think anyone can argue that it is brilliantly written and definitely plays tricks on your mind! Lehane is a master.

Nothing came in for me this past week at the library. I have about 10 items on request, though.

  • The Wednesday Witch was among my top 5 books in grade school and I haven’t seen it for years. (My copy mysteriously disappeared, along with a whole box of other favs, from my parents’ house after I went to college. No one is confessing.) Glad to see that it’s still available and still being loved.
