Yay Readathon! and a Bookish Charity (Hour -2)

I’ve decided that I’m starting the Readathon just a tad bit early.  When the baby gets up it is going to get tougher to keep reading, especially because my husband will be gone for a few hours to coach his swim team (about 7:30 – 10:30, including travel).  Daniel will be going over to his grandma’s house later today, but I may have to follow him over if he isn’t taking his bottle (which he doesn’t usually, so that’s probably going to happen).  In addition, we are planning on spending tomorrow in downtown Chicago and staying at a hotel down there Sunday night.  I’ll be going straight to work on Monday without going home.  This, of course, means that I need to actually sleep some tonight.  Therefore, I am going to start reading at 5:00 Central instead of 7:00 Central.  If I can make it the whole 24 hours, I’ll have at least a good 5 hours of sleep before my husband is ready to get up on Sunday morning.

Anyway, enough about that.  You probably want to see my final book stack:

This is pretty much the same as my original piles, with perhaps a couple of additions.

I’m not sure where I’ll be spending most of my time, I’ll probably have to move around quite a bit, but I DID figure out what charity I will be reading for.  When I first moved to Chicago I was a member of Teach for America teaching 2nd grade in a high-poverty school on the city’s South Side.  I found a current Teach for America corps member or alum that is still teaching 2nd grade in Chicago on DonorsChoose.  This teacher is hoping to buy 36 quality children’s books for her class, but still needs a little over $400 for her grant to be fulfilled.  I will be pledging $5 for every book I read over the next 24 hours to this grant (my dad’s pledging $10 per book!).  Please consider sponsoring me and supporting this teacher or a literacy project in your area.

I will be starting the Readathon with a large glass of diet coke and “Confessions of a Slacker Mom”
