You may have noticed my review for the re-release of Margaret Campbell Barnes’ “The Tudor Rose” last week.
Thanks to the re-releases by Sourcebooks I’ve been enjoying Barnes’ writings. If you like Plaidy, you’ll probably like Barnes too, she reminds me of Plaidy’s less-dry work. Anyway, I really liked “The Tudor Rose.” I like seeing Elizabeth of York get her time in the spotlight since her father, uncle, and second son tend to overshadow her.
Okay, but you’re really reading this post because you see the word ‘giveaway.’ Here’s the scoop, Sourcebooks will send a copy of “The Tudor Rose” to one of my readers in the US or Canada. All you have to do is tell me in these comments who your favorite queen is and why. Preferably British queen, but any queen will do. If you comment on my review of “The Tudor Rose” (even if you did so before I announced this giveaway) I’ll give you an extra entry, but you aren’t entered if you don’t enter here.
I’ll close the giveaway at 11:59 pm Central on Tuesday, October 13th.

Hmm… favorite queen? Can it be the Queen Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (the Queen Mother) for the following statement?
“The children won’t go without me. I won’t leave the King. And the King will never leave.” (Given as her reason for not fleeing England for Canada during the Blitz during the Second World War.)
Oh, and for her love of gin.

I will have to go with Elizabeth I, she’s the one I’m most familiar with outside of the current queen. Also, when I think of women royalty she is the first person I imagine.
Okay, I’m going to choose a queen… of France. I haven’t studied anything queen-related at school, and the book relating to a queen is sitting lonely on my bookshelf. My only information on a queen was gotten from a Nancy Drew Computer Game. I’ll have to go with Marie Antoinette. Don’t laugh! ( ;
I’ll go with Elizabeth II, just for her staying power all these years.
Thanks for this lovely giveaway. My favorite Queen is Queen Elizabeth the ll. She is a great horsewoman, and her ability to contribute during World War 11 by driving heavy vehicles.
Hmmm…my all-time favorite is Elizabeth I, but right now I’m a fan of Elizabeth Woodville, since I’m reading The White Queen. I love all historical fiction, especially those including royalty! Thanks for the giveaway!
By the way, I’m hosting my first one beginning Oct. 6 if you’re interested

I pick Queen Elizabeth II because she is the only oneI really know anything about.
It’s a toss up between Eleanor of Aqutain or Victoria.
Hmmm….my favorite queen…it has to be Anne Boleyn. Cliche, I know, but I find the story of her rise and fall absolutely fascinating! And you know I already commented on your review

My favorite is Queen Elizabeth b/c she gave up so much of her personal life and love. She put her country first.
My favorite queen is Boudica. She was pretty tough.
My favorite queen is Elizabeth of York. Thanks for the giveaway!
This is hard but the first Queen Elizabeth because she accomplished so much in her lifetime and was able to remain independent (unmarried) for her entire reign. She was brilliant, stubborn and a savvy politician. Plus, she encouraged the flowering of the artists and writers like Shakespeare.
thanks so much for the entry! This sounds like a fascinating book.

I am going to pick-Mary Queen of Scots.
thanks
Would you believe? I read this book about 50 years ago. All I really remember is that I really enjoyed it and it launched my love affair with historical fiction. I’d love to win a new copy, and reread this novel. Favorite queen? Eleanor of Aquitaine.
Elizabeth I is my favorite queen. Kind of unoriginal, but oh well.
Please count me in. Thanks for the chance. My fav is Queen Elizabeth, but Cleopatra is up there too.
The one that intrigues me the most would be Isabella of Spain and for the English – I like her daughter, Katherine.
My favorite queen? That’s easy, Queen Elizabeth I. Strong woman, single, beautiful…all the characteristics of an amazing life.
My favourite queen is Queen Mary of Hungary. My dad was Hungarian, so in my genealogical searches, I’ve learned about the history and royalty of Hungary (Bohemia, Austria)–fascinating stuff!!

Elizabeth I because she was an independant woman!
Given that I prefer any Queen to all the Kings combined, I have quite a few favorites. Mostly I like that they survived at all — and I can appreciate the political savvy of even the cruel ones (because when weren’t they all a bit on the cruel side?). I adore Elizabeth I for obvious reasons and find her insistence on staying unmarried to be fascinating. But I also respect Anne of Cleves, who was smart enough to survive Henry VIII and managed to live a full life post-marriage to him. I’m a big fan of Plaidy’s, and would LOVE to get my hands on this book! Thanks for the chance!
I have always been fascinated by queens throughout time and the one I have always been most fascinated in is Anne Boleyn. Her rise to power and swift fall has always intrigued me. I’ve also been fascinated by Elizabeth I, because she was a woman with so much power.
Elenor of Aquetaine who managed to out live her husband after he had her imprisioned for something like 17 years who went on to help her son Richard (the lionheart) while he was off at the crusades. I would like to read more about her!

Eleanor of Aquitaine, she lived in one of the most interesting periods of English history, and her relationship with Henry and her sons is fascinating
Catherine of Aragon because she stood strong and refused to divorce Henry VIII, despite much pressure to do so.

I’m going to go with Queen Elizabeth I.
My favorite queen is Anne Boleyn. I’ve read a few books of her life with Henry VIII and she was so misunderstood! She tried so hard to give Henry what he wanted, but no woman could ever please him.
