The Queen’s Mistake – Giveaway
Winners! Serena of Savvy Verse and Wit and Deb of Book Magic!
So recently I read and REALLY enjoyed “The Queen’s Mistake” by Diane Haeger. It is probably my favorite Tudor historical fiction novel in quite awhile. I also have a guest post from Haeger about how and why she wrote about Catherine the way she did. Well NOW I have a giveaway! Two copies of “The Queen’s Mistake!”
To refresh your memory, here’s the publisher’s description:
When the young and beautiful Catherine Howard becomes the fifth wife of the fifty-year-old King Henry VIII, she seems to be on top of the world. Yet her reign is destined to be brief and heartbreaking, as she is forced to do battle with enemies far more powerful and calculating than she could have ever anticipated in a court where one wrong move could mean her undoing. Wanting only love, Catherine is compelled to deny her heart’s desire in favor of her family’s ambition. But in so doing, she unwittingly gives those who sought to bring her down a most effective weapon-her own romantic past.
The Queen’s Mistake is the tragic tale of one passionate and idealistic woman who struggles to negotiate the intrigue of the court and the yearnings of her heart.
Now, for the details:
To enter, tell me which of Henry VIII’s wives is your favorite and why.

Hmmm…I have always been intrigued with the wives of Henry VIII. In fact, I even made models of all six of them when I was twelve for Shakespeare week at school. I believe I still have them laying about somewhere. But I’m not sure I have a favorite. I think the whole situation with Anne of Cleves was pretty funny, and she was probably lucky she didn’t lose her head as well. But I find Anne Boleyn to be the most intriguing and enigmatic, so I’d probably choose her.

I have to go with Anne Boleyn. The sheer amount of lore surrounding her- witchcraft! extra digits!- is fascinating, and she was the first to be executed.
I already subscribe to your feed, so… there you go!
I actually don’t have a favorite wife of Henry VIII, though after reading your review and the guest post, maybe it will be Catherine Howard.

Frankly, I feel for every one of Henry’s wives for having to deal with him. So I’ll go with All of the Above.
…and I subscribe.
I’m really looking forward to reading this book – thanks for the chance to win a copy! My favorite wife would be Wife #2 – Anne Boleyn. She sparked and sparkled – as well as gave birth to Elizabeth I!

thanks for this great giveaway. Definitely Katherine of Aragon. Mysterious and alluring.
“Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived”
I say Catherine Parr is my favorite because she is the one who survived!

Katherine of Aragon is my favorite wife of Henry VIII. She remained true to her beliefs, despite everything else. There is a great book by Karen Lindsay called Divorced, Beheaded, Survived: A Feminist Reinterpretation of the Six Wives of Henry VIII that you would really find fascinating if you like Tudor history.

Yay!
Definitely Katherine of Aragon. I read a hist fic quite some time ago about her and her daughter. I was really intrigued. Plus, I’m not a fan of the other women who had to marry Henry VIII after he’d already cast off his first.
I honestly don’t have a favorite wife. I haven’t read much during this time period and thats why I’d love to win this one.

My favortie of Henry’s wives has always been the first Catherine.
I would have to say Katherine of Aragon, after watching the Tudors S 1&2. She was so classy, though Anne was feisty and certainly so controversial. But I’m going with Katherine

Oh lord. Hummm. I usually say Anne Boleyn because she was the catalyst for so much change and was the mother of Elizabeth. But I always had a soft spot for Catherine Parr, and then there is poor Jane Seymour. I’ll pick Catherine Parr.

My favorite is Anne of Cleves – she had to be a very clever woman to have gained a pretty good life for herself, despite being a disappointment to Henry. And as I understand it, she later became a confidante and friend to Henry and others within the court.

Oh, please enter me – this book looks so interesting.
My favorite wife hands down is Anne Boleyn. I know there is a lot not to like, but I find her and her history so interesting.

Thanks!
I realized that I forgot to tell you which of wife was my favorite – I really like them all (for different reasons) but if I have to choose, I would say Katherine of Aragon for standing up to Henry for what she felt was right and for what she believed her daughter was entitled to. She could have taken the easy way out, but she didn’t.
I have to say Anne Boleyn. She seemed so smart and independent, even though she couldn’t be really. I like her.
Anne Boleyn – I’ve found her interesting since I was a little girl, right or wrong, she knew what she wanted and got it
I would choose Anne Boleyn because she was the mother of Elizabeth I.
I am a follower on Google and by e-mail.
Anne of Cleves is rather facinating. She did not lose her head and according to one of the books i’ve read, she managed to become friends with Henry.

My favorite wife of Henry VIII was Catherine of Aragon, as it was Henry’s efforts to divorce Catherine that led to Henry splitting from the Pope and creating the Church of England.
