I wanted to start the official Readathon off the right way with the Hour 1 Meme:

Where are you reading from today?

I think I will probably be home most of the day.  I will likely read from the living room, the bedroom, AND Daniel’s room at some point.  I may also be reading at my inlaws’ basement for awhile if Daniel doesn’t want to take a bottle from his grandma so that she can play with him so I can read, but he can still eat

3 facts about me …

-This is my first Readathon with my baby, my fourth Readathon total

-I’m related to Patrick Henry of “Give me liberty or give me death” fame

-I can never think of good facts so I ALWAYS use the Patrick Henry thing, some of you have probably heard it before!

How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?

I think I ended up with a pile of 21 books, there were a few last minute substitutions, so I’m not positive, but it is right around there.

Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?

I’m hoping to read at least 5 books and read at least 17 hours.

If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, Any advice for people doing this for the first time?

Short books, people!  Don’t be afraid to switch it up either.  Also, plenty of snacks.

Check In

I started the Readathon two hours early today for a variety of reasons (see my Hour -2 post for details), so I already have some progress to report.

Books Read: Confessions of a Slacker Mom by Muffy Mead-Ferro and Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi

Pages Read: 187

Time Spent Reading: 1 hour, 40 minutes

Books Finished: 1 – Confessions of a Slacker Mom by Muffy Mead-Ferro

The baby’s awake now, though, so we’ll see how much I get done between now and his first nap (hopefully soon!  I have him in his jumpy chair to tire him out).

  2. Happy Read-a-Thon! I can’t imagine doing the RaT with a little one around. I’ll be checking back to see how you work it out!

  3. Traditional read-a-thon blessing:

May the bookshelf be there to greet you.
    May all the books appeal.
    May the fridge be full of tasty snacks;
the words fall soft upon your eyes and until the read-a-thon ends,
may you always hold a book in the palm of your hand.

    Good luck today!

  4. Short books make sense. Makes you feel accomplished. :)

  5. Maybe it’s time to introduce Daniel to the Baby Einstein CD’s while propped in the bouncer. Yes, I’m a bad mom. That always kept my crew entertained for a reasonable amount of reading time. :-)

  6. You’re doing great! I see books by Satrapi are popular during this read-a-thon. Happy reading!

  7. I agree with the short books! That’s what I’m sticking with.

  16. You’re doing great! I find it’s easier to switch up on books unless I get really involved in one. Snacks are essential and I have a pile of them although the munchies don’t hit till evening for me. Good luck and keep it up! I’ll be by throughout the day.

  17. Great afternoon and the leaves are falling, wind is whipping through the trees here in Auburn, Alabama, great time to curl up with that next book and keep on reading!!! Hot chocolate and cookies have got to be around there somewhere!!

    Go Reading,Go Reading,Go Reading!!!
