BBAW: Reading Meme
I used all my creativity on yesterday’s post about what I’m looking for in an e-reader. That means I couldn’t think of anything particularly fun to do for my reading meme today, so I’m going to go with the suggestion of just answering everything in 5 words or less.
Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?
Chips or one-handed food.
Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of
writing in books horrify you?
Mark only with post-its.
How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
Dog-ears, receipts, or LitHouseWife Bookmarks
Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?
Both, but mostly fiction
Hard copy or audiobooks?
Audiobooks in the car only
Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
At least paragraph end
If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?
Don’t stop, context is king.
What are you currently reading?
“The Maze Runner” James Dashner
What is the last book you bought?
“Bad Girls Don’t Die” Alender
Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time?
One or two plus audio.
Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read?
Anywhere, anytime, especially in bed.
Do you prefer series books or stand alone books?
Read either, mostly stand alone.
Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?
John Steinbeck, “East of Eden”
How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?)
By TBR or not, genre

I tried eating two-handed food once while reading. I had the book balanced on the arm of the couch, my plate balanced on a pillow on my lap, and my mouth and my eyes trying to always go in two different directions. It was not pretty. Now, like you, I stick with one-handed food!

I’m often using my Literate Housewife bookmarks too! Either those or the two my fiance made for me. I like the ones that were made with me in mind. =)

I’ve owned East of Eden for at least a year or two and still have yet to crack it open. Not sure what I’m waiting for!

THe Maze Runner is on my wish list.

I tend to fall asleep if I read in bed.
maybe I need more sleep.

I like the idea of organizing by TBR. It sounds like a good idea — you can just walk over to that shelf and grab anything. Another organization method to consider after I move!

I have all my TBR books on my main bookshelves, then they’re ordered by genre (if you consider ‘to review!’ or ‘library books’ a genre), then within genre by time/place (historical fiction and history), author (general fiction, nonfiction), or country (multicultural fiction). It makes it really easy to grab something in the genre I’m looking for. Of course, all the books I’ve actually read are shoved willy-nilly on the remaining shelves that don’t actually provide enough space for them.

I’m honored!
It took me years and about three or four tries to get into “East of Eden,” but then it sucked me in and left me in awe. Talk about a gorgeous book.

East of Eden is one of my favorite books of all time and although the thought of eating and reading sounds very appealing to me, I don’t do it. I am too anal about getting smudges on the page and I find food to be a bit of a distraction. I must be thinking food though because when I first wrote East of Eden I wrote EAT of Eden.

Right on! I’m a “context is king” gal as well.

I actually attempt two-handed food every now and then. It requires heavy weights to hold down both sides of the book (goodbye pristine spine!).

I read every night before bed — without fail! In fact, I can’t really fall asleep unless it’s just as a book is slipping from my fingers.
It’s a habit I started as a kid, and it’s never left me! I even bought a booklight for when I’m on vacation and don’t want to disturb anyone else, but I absolutely HAVE to read before bed!

I stop at paragraph’s end, too, but it has to be the first paragraph on the page!

Can’t wait to see what you think about THe Maze Runner, as that one is on my wishlist! And I’m another “context is king” reader. Don’t want to stop reading to look anything up! *L*

i recently got one Lit Housewife bookmark and love it too!

Thanks for the bookmark shout out. I’m so glad that they rate right up there with receipts!
LOL! Same here. Believe it or not, I keep setting them down and little monkeys seem to take them off and I never see them again. I need to make new ones each month just so that I have one handy.
I saw that East of Eden was your favorite yesterday during the interviews. I really need to read that novel. I will add that as one of my goals for next year.

Oh! I guess I do read more than one book at a time. You just made me think about it. I listen to an audio in my car, so I do technically read two books. I never even considered it. lol

Way to stick to the 5-word limit! I tried but didn’t succeed.
One-handed food is KEY while you are reading!
