In case you missed it, this is Banned Books Week. I’m a bit behind on everything right now, or I’d have some new reviews or book spotlights especially for this week. Since I don’t, I’d love to direct you to the seven book spotlights I did last year. In each you’ll find the book’s status, the reason it was challenged, and my thoughts. Remember, just because the post is a year old, there’s no reason you can’t comment on it!
Without further ado, my Banned Book spotlights:
- A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L’Engle
- Lord of the Flies by William Golding
- To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
- Native Son by Richard Wright
- The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
- Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
- Kaffir Boy: The True Story of a Black Youth’s Coming of Age in Apartheid South Africa by Mark Mathabane

Judging by all the posts I have seen on this topic, I read a lot of banned books! I have even more of them on my TBR pile, so I guess I am all good.

Off to read your reviews. My (second) banned books week post is here: http://tinyurl.com/ycgkoh6. I wonder how many new readers these books pick up on account of people have tried to ban them in the first place. I know I keep seeing titles that sound interesting to me, and I’ve definitely added some to my TBR pile because of it. Even the book I reviewed this week (And Tango Makes Three) probably wouldn’t have made it into our house to be read if it weren’t for topping the list of objectionable books three years running.

I’ll definitely be visiting some of your reviews this week. So glad to see BBW in the blogosphere!

The whole thing makes your stomach turn, doesn’t it? Can you freaking imagine? Banning TKAM? Banning A Wrinkle in Time? Personally, my life wouldn’t be the same without these books. I think the banners are just a bunch of repressed hypocrites.

I loved loved loved “A Wrinkle in Time.” Such an amazing book, and so are the others you mention too. I’m definitely wearing my “Banned Books” bracelet this week.

I adored A Wrinkle in Time and honestly can’t figure why it would be banned. Well, yes, I guess I can and it is such a shame. Loved To Kill a Mockingbird too and Native Son. Such important works should not be pushed aside. It’s just so silly and wrong. Looks like I need to get a bracelet!
