I’ve gotten into more of the swing of things with Daniel and being a mommy so I’ve had a chance to do more reading. In fact, when I finish my current book, I’ll have read as many books in August as I did in July. Since last Sunday I finished 4 books (although being at my parents’ house and on the airplane helped a lot):
The Mom’s Guide to Growing Your Family Green by Terra Wellington
The Embers by Hyatt Bass
Fragile Eternity by Melissa Marr
The Wet Nurse’s Tale by Erica Eisdorfer
The sad thing is, I have to go back and look at my tracking sheet to actually see what it is that I’ve read. Once I know what book it was, I can remember it fine, but actually remembering what the book WAS, even one I was just reading two days ago? Very difficult.
This has been an Audrey Niffenegger week for me. I wasn’t able to go to the Chicago screening of The Time Traveler’s Wife because we didn’t get back to our place from the airport until 4ish. There was no way I could prepare to leave the baby within 2 hours – plus, I was so exhausted from getting up at 4:30 to leave for the airport in LA that I was asleep by the time the movie started! However, I sent my friend from work in my place, and she wrote a great review of the movie for me.
Then, Friday, I got an ARC of Niffenegger’s new book, Her Fearful Symmetry. Even though all but 3 of the review books I have reviews due before this is being published, I couldn’t help it and started “Her Fearful Symmetry” immediately, as I had just finished “The Wet Nurse’s Tale” and hadn’t started anything else. I now have fewer than 80 pages left and, let me tell you, I’m LOVING it. I have to agree with what Rebecca told me, I really think it is even better than “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” as much as I adored TTTW. I fully expect to finish “Her Fearful Symmetry” tonight, but I’m not going to post my review until September, since it isn’t being released until September 29th.
Okay, I’m off to go cuddle with my sleeping baby, read “Her Fearful Symmetry,” and listen to the thunder storm. Does it get any better?
Better than The Time Traveler’s Wife?? I’ll look forward to your review!

I’m glad you’re reading more! It looks like I am not getting a review copy of Her Fearful Symmetry, so I am very jealous! Glad to hear it’s amazing though. I’ll be picking it up on release I expect.

I know exactly what you mean – I have to look at my reading list to remember what I read last, but I have no trouble remembering what the book was about once I know.

Ooh, I’ll look forward to your review of HER FEARFUL SYMMETRY. I’m eager to read the book, but I think I’ll be holding off until early next year. I have far too many other books to get through.

It sounds like you’re establishing a “new normal” and that’s great! I can’t wait to read Her Fearful Symmetry, especially if it’s that good. I adored TTW.

Sounds like you are settling in well, and taking the chances to read when you can!
I also have to refer to my list to remember what I read.
I’m looking forward to hearing more about HER FEARFUL SYMMETRY.

Yep. I don’t think I would be able to wait either if Symmetry showed up on my doorstep.
The mommy brain thing passes. I used to have dreams about leaving my baby’s car seat at the grocery store so I spent much of my “mommying” just trying to keep track of the baby and the stroller. Pitiful I know. Other things had to take a backseat, such as the title of a book or the name of a co-worker. It happens

You are a speed reader! I’m lucky if I can finish one book over the course of a day. With weekends I fare better with maybe two but dang if I can get more than that done in a week.
Congrats on getting Her Fearful Symmetry it seems to be all the rage
I must admit I haven’t read The Time Travelers Wife yet so I have nothing to compare this new one with but judging from everyone’s excitement it seems it is going to be a fantastic read. Enjoy it
