My Book Buddy
So I’ve been extremely remiss in getting out my review for my Book Buddy. I was sent this for review back in April, before the last Readathon. The Book Buddy is a lightweight pillow that works to hold open a book and to prop it up. The two parallel ribbons hold down the covers of the book (and some of the pages, if you so choose). The slanted ribbons hold down the pages you are turning. I must say, the Book Buddy works remarkably well. I’ve tried it with small books, tall books, short books, and long books. Occasionally smaller, thinner paperbacks won’t want to hold open, but even then the Book Buddy holds them open better than anything else (other than 2 hands) – and without breaking the spine.
Now, if you only ever read sitting up or lying down and never do anything else while reading, and if your hands are strong, you may not need the Book Buddy, although they are still quite nice. If you ever want hands-free reading, though, they are perfect. There have been a couple of instances in which my reading buddy has been indispensible:
- While knitting: I love to knit, but if I’m ONLY knitting I get super bored. I need to watch TV, listen to an audiobook, or read. The only problem with trying to read is trying to hold the book down and easily turn the pages. The Book Buddy makes it MUCH easier.
While eating: sometimes you just need to use two hands to eat, but then how are you supposed to read? Typically I would use heavy objects to keep the book open, but that makes it hard to turn pages. Enter the Book Buddy!- While nursing my baby. Hello! Hands free reading is VERY helpful while trying to feed a squirming baby.
I’m not the only one who likes the Boook Buddy, either. After seeing pictures of it on my blog during the Readathon, my mom ordered one for my Grandma for Mother’s Day. My Grandma LOVES it, says it makes reading much easier when you have arthritis in your hands.
Long story short, I love my Book Buddy!

I love my Book Buddy, too! I even take it with me when we travel by car. Daniel is gorgeous – thanks for sharing the picture of him.

What a very cool idea. I could use this in winter, when I want to keep my hands under the comforter while reading..LOL

THAT is awesome. Seriously awesome. I would have loved to have something like that when I was nursing my two babies. I did a lot of reading then, but it would have been so much easier!!!
And since you say you use it while knitting…that gives me ideas. I think I need one too!

The first time I saw one of these, I wasn’t sure I would use it. Then I realized that when I sit in my reading chair at night, I usually put a pillow on my lap to prop up my book! Duh! I really need one of these.

I just knew that your Reading Buddy would be invaluable while nursing the baby! I still love to use it while working on my bookmarks – with the flat surface I can put them together while watching TV or listening to my audiobooks. Handy gadget that will most definitely be picked up for Christmas presents this year!

Reading while knitting? Yow. I’m lucky I can knit while knitting… no, not true. I can listen to an audiobook. I just can’t look away from the needles.
I think I’d like the bookbuddy for reading while I watch tv.

That is a great idea for using it while nursing the baby! My sister’s friend has a 3 month old and I bet she’d like to use the Reading Buddy while she feeds her.

Ack, I can’t even imagine trying to read and knit at the same time. I’m like you, I can’t *just* knit, but I need to watch my hands often enough that reading a book would be really hard – I can barely even watch subtitled movies when I knit.

I can only do it with very simple patterns, things that are extremely repetitive, and only once I get going. Otherwise, TV or audiobook.

Interesting. I’ve never heard of such a thing, but it sounds like a wonderful invention…especially for nursing moms (like me).
