Loved this book. Loved it. Loved the ending (Hollywood would have a field day with that one.) and loved the characters. I enjoy the dystopian future theme in books and hence also loved "Never Let Me Go" as well. I like reading about dystopian futures. This is creepy though! The fact that this might actually happen in the future, questions of ethics, and how they choose whether someone contributes to society, basically controlling their lives.. Wow.

It just came out in translation in the US, but it was published in 2006 in Sweden, so it was probably being written somewhat concurrently with “Never Let Me Go.” I haven’t read Ishigaro’s work, but it seems like the main similarity is the organ donations, the hows (clones v. older people) sound fairly different. I’d have to read “Never Let Me Go” to know for sure, though.

Oh dear – when did this book come out? It sounds a LOT like a reworking of Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishigaro (which was a FABULOUS book).
