Library Loot – June 5, 2009

I KNEW I should have gone to the library Wednesday night instead of Thursday night this week.  Somehow during the day on Thursday I got about 4 holds in.  I really have no way to read all the books I have out right now, but that’s okay, I’ll just have to do my best.  When I was at the library tonight, I realized that I need to make my husband get a new library card.  He used to have a card to our library, but he seems to have lost it and I’m sure it has expired, and that’s the only way that I can get him to pick up holds for me – a job I will probably be assigning him pretty often this summer while I’m busy with the baby.

Anyway, here’s what I picked up on what may (or may not) be my last pre-baby trip to the library:

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
The Spirit Catches you and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman
The Swan Maiden by Jules Watson
Sag Harbor by Colson Whitehead
Rumors by Anna Godbersen
The Rival Queens by Fidelis Morgan
The Collector of Worlds by Ilija Troyanov
Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway

Soooo many books!  I’m trying to read one book per day in June until the baby comes, but that may not get me much past my review copies, so we’ll have to see if I can get through these library books or not.

  • Jen your library always seems to have the newest books. Wish my library was like that. From you library loot I have bought: Audrey Wait (Alea made me buy it LOL)Rumours and Sag Harbour. 13 Reasons why is on the TB list. Happy reading.

  • That Thirteen Reasons Why has had alot of positive feedback, but frankly it scares me. Teenagers scare me, and mine is about to become one. I suppose I should read it for that reason alone! When is your due date exactly?

  • I’m happy to see you went with The Rival Queens! I’m thinking about reading my copy soon now that I actually looked it up and know what it’s about. And I just got an email telling me that The Luxe came in, so I am very excited to join you all in reading this series!

Oh, and Thirteen Reasons Why is fantastic. Also reads surprisingly quickly for such a scary topic, so it will help you in your book-a-day goal!

  • Great loot! The author of Sag Harbor was just in the new Rolling Stone as part of their Hot List 2009.

Wow. Some great titles there! I heart my library for so many reasons…being able to go online and put holds on books is just one!

Good luck with reading all those books!!

  • This is my first time here – so I’m going to bookmark or subscribe to your RSS just so that I don’t miss the book reviews.

    Nice site BTW :)

  • One book per day? Holy cow! Oh yeah, I remember, I used to be able to do that pre-kidlets, too! Enjoy it now, girl!

  • Sandy – A week from today! June 12th! I think he’ll be late, though.

Helen – Welcome! Glad you’re here!

Michele – Yah, my goal is one per day this month UNTIL the baby gets here, so I get most of my review copies out of the way before he arrives. I have no illusions of it happening after he arrives – part of why I don’t mind too much if he IS a week late.

  • Great list of book from the library — some that I’ve read or really want to read. Read, enjoy some quiet moments, and don’t stress. The kid will come when he’s ready, and you’ll love him so much you won’t miss reading (well, at least at first).

  • Wow, that’s a lot of great books! I hope you can get to all or most of them. I really want to read Audrey, Wait! and The Luxe series.

  • I so rarely go to the library. *hangs head in shame*

Last night, we had an hour or so to kill before the house opened at the theater (went to see Wicked – it was AMAAAAAAZING), and so I got to spend it at the library! I checked out The Giver on your recommendation and am already completely absorbed. I also grabbed Anastasia’s Chosen Career, as I was already in the right section, and it was my favorite Anastasia book as a kid; Dealing with Dragons, thanks to a blog comment from another friend; and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which I’ve somehow avoided reading my whole life.
My book buying budget has been put on a (hopefully temporary) freeze, so I’ll be insisting on more library trips or *gulp* working through those packed TBR shelves…

  • Oh I thought The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down was such an excellent book. It should be required reading for anyone who works in healthcare.

  • Holy cow–I’m glad I’m not the only one who checks out books faster than she can read them. Between the library books and the book club reads, I never seem to have times for the books I actually paid for!

  • As a librarian I would like to thank you for listing your Library Loot and the fact that you place holds!!! Library’s everywhere have had to cut back on the # of books they buy but if you ask they can ususally get them..(a slight wait time of course)

If any of you have new books in good gently read condition consider donating them to your local library..They can’t take ARC’s but I know that we are begging for any new books we can get..Thanks
