Love to arm-chair travel! Even if it’s back in time however, the health care back then really makes me wince when I’m reading (I do the same thing when I read about police investigations before they knew about DNA and keeping the crime scene clean but for totally different reasons). Not sure if I could stomach a detailed birthing in a book though…

Great post! Since making it through two relatively high risk pregnancies that required some periods of bed rest I have long thought that I’d NEVER have made it out alive in any other century. Historical fiction allows me the vicarious thrill of times past without the death wish.
