Library Loot – April 24th

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Eva and Alessandra that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library.

So at this point, I’m fairly certain I’m never going to read anything from my TBR pile ever again.  With trying to fit in all the books I have out from the library in around all of the review obligations I have, there’s no way.  As it is I’m in a race again due dates of books that have already been renewed twice (the maximum number of times) or that other people have on hold.  Thank goodness for the color-coded spreadsheet I made in Google Documents for my review and library books.  It lists pub dates, my due dates (whether to have the book reviewed or returned), number of renewals I’ve used, whether anyone else has the book on hold, etc.  If it wasn’t for that, I’d have to return nearly everything to the library unread.  At least I wouldn’t get fined, though, since my library emails me if I’m within two days of the due date.  By the way, you’ll notice at the bottom of this thread I’ve made a little widget of ALL the books I currently have out from the library.  I’m just going to keep updating my list in LibraryThing and I’ll include this widget on each new LibraryLoot post.  Whatever you see will be current as of that moment, not as of the time I wrote or posted this.  Anyway, here’s what I retrieved from the library last week:

Gang Leader for a Day by Sudhir Venkatesh
Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Wake by Lisa McMann
The Queen’s Devotion by Jean Plaidy
The Last Witch of Langenburg by Thomas Robisheaux
Galway Bay by Mary Pat Kelly

I actually AM going to return “Shadow of the Wind” unread, though.  After I got it, it was picked by our book club to read for our meeting at the very end of May.  Even with renewals I couldn’t have it to take to the meeting, so I’m going to take it back, let the person who has a hold have it, and get it when the other copy comes back at the beginning of May.

  • You are so in the same predicament as I am with the library! I have like seventeen books out. I, on the other hand, can renew indefinitely if no one has requested the book, so I’ve been just renewing and renewing and renewing. It’s like I have two TBR piles!

You got some good ones, there. My mom loved Galway Bay. I haven’t found the time to read it yet but she keeps bugging me about it. I also have The Last Witch of Langenburg and have been a very bad blogger, it was released it March and I haven’t read it yet.

  • You have some good picks from the library. Galway Bay was great! I took The Tudors out last week from the library but had forgotten about the read-a-thon so of course I didn’t get to watch it. YOu only have a week for DVD’s at the library so I’ll have to take it out again. I was so looking forward to it too. Enjoy!

  • Kathy

I loved Galway Bay – hope you do too.

  • I wrote a post last night (for Monday, I think) that mentions Gang Leader for a Day. I just listened to Freakonomics (have you read that one?) which talks about Venkatesh, and then I saw his book in Borders earlier this week. And now you have it! Funny how things start popping up everywhere.

  • My heart jumped up into my throat when I read you weren’t going to be reading Shadow in the Wind. It took another read to realise you meant that you weren’t going to read it just yet! Love that book.

Good idea on having the widget for all the books you currently have out!

    • Ha! That’s funny. Don’t worry, I will be reading it, I just need to wait a couple more weeks. I’m glad you love it though. Everyone seems to. I hope my book club does as well, because it was my recommendation.

  • You’re in for a treat with Galway Bay. I hope you love it as much as I did.

  • I just picked up Galway Bay because of all the great reviews! I’m interested in what you think about The Queen’s Devotion…for some reason I couldn’t get into it, but it may have been my mood at the time cause I usually love Plaidy!
