In honor of the 40th birthday of Eric Carle’s much beloved children’s book, today has been deemed “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” Day. Even Google’s getting into the celebration:
This is exciting for our family because Eric Carle is my mom’s very favorite children’s author (maybe just her very favorite author?) and I adore him too, both of us having taught primary elementary school (I taught 2nd grade for two years, she must have been teaching around 15 years now, everything from Kindergarden through 3rd grade). In fact, the theme for our nursery for my little boy who will be joining us this summer is Eric Carle, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” in particular. My mom is making curtains, bedding, etc. from this lovely “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” fabric. Incidently, I think the baby is celebrating that today is “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” Day, it felt like he was having a dance party in there when I read the news this morning.
Penguin has some great stuff on their website about Eric Carle and “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” including a video of Eric Carle talking about the book, so go check it out!
