I agree that Water for Elephants could be a wonderful movie. It would take a good director to preserve the parallels without making them too obvious and (to use Nise’s word) cheesy.

Loved Water For Elephants. Just finished Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet and agree if not done right, it could be cheesy.

You're 100% right about The Aviary Gate - it would be much better without the modern day portion. I'd love to see more historical fiction as film, really, but I'd definitely have to set aside history for the movies. I love to visualize the way things might have been. You came up with some really good ones. I was a film student at one point in my life so when I read, I see everything as a film. I did that with The Road but now I heard that movie was scrapped. I hope not because it was looking really good from the pics that I have seen of it.
