I’m back, friends. I had a great vacation and hope the rest of you did as well. I didn’t necessarily mean to take a vacation from blogging, but the days filled up so much that I just didn’t get anything written. I also barely checked email, read LibraryThing, Twittered, answered phone calls, or perused blogs. Yes, I DO have about 900 posts in my Google Reader, thanks for asking.
The nice thing about vacation is that I did get a fair number of books read. In fact, I’ve already finished 3 books this year!
Here are my plans for the year:
- I’m going to attempt to get back to posting reviews every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Right now I have enough reviews that need to be written that I can do this for awhile, even if my reading slows a bit now that I’m back at work. If I can’t keep up 3 books/week, I’ll go to reviews on Monday and Wednesday only. Reviews may also be replaced by the month-end wrap up posts.
- I’m planning to get back into the swing of The Sunday Salon, which I haven’t participated in for quite some time. I also hope to keep doing two memes during the week. If Tuesday Thingers goes the way of the dodo, I may start doing Teaser Tuesdays. I’ll definitely continue doing Booking Through Thursday most weeks as well.
- My reading goal for this year is 150 books. This is maybe not attainable with having a new baby in the second half of the year, but I think it will give me something to shoot for. I ended up just under 150 books this year, but I did not start keeping track until the beginning of March, and the nausea and extreme fatigue of my first trimester made reading very difficult for a couple of months there at the end of the year.
- As a way to organize some of my reading this year and make sure I read some things I want to read, not all ARCs and review copies, I’m participating in the 999 Challenge. The goal is to read 9 books in 9 categories in 2009. Since I plan to read far more than 81 books, I’m increasing the difficulty of the challenge and attempting to have it completed by September 9th. You can view my progress on my 999 Challenge page found here or on my sidebar.
Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions on my plans and goals. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and wish you the best in the New Year.

I had noticed I hadn’t heard from you in awhile, but…holidays? a baby? work? 150 books? That is amazing. You are an overachiever after my heart! Welcome back, and look forward to reading the reviews of your recent reads.
It will be fun to watch your progress throughout the year. Good luck with all your goals!

First off, welcome back, now get to your reader LOL. I’m glad you had a great vacation. I noticed that my reading was cut by almost in half. I was reading around 60 books before my son, and this year (he was born November 2007) I only got to 22 books!! Yikes!! I’m gonna love watching your progress though! Good luck!!!
I’m glad you’re back, I missed you! Happy New Year to you too!
Its good to have you back! Good luck with all your reading projects this year in addition to the baby. You may end up reading more kids picture books than you expected.
Your reading skills, among other things, amaze me! Glad you’re back.
Happy New Year and good luck with your goals.
I’m also glad you’re back, though I’m glad you were able to enjoy some time away from the Internet. I’m looking forward to reading the reviews I know are coming!
I definitely noticed your absence and I’m glad you’re refreshed after the vacation! I really hate when my google reader has that many posts in it – instant pressure to catch up instead of blog.
Good luck with your goals!
Welcome back! I hope 2009 lives up to your wildest expectations, bookish and otherwise.
Happy 2009 to you. 150 Books!! Read on!!!
I hope you had a great vacation! I’m sure you will do wonderful things in 2009. I can’t wait for you to have the baby!
Welcome back! I hope you had very happy holidays with the little one. I’ve left you an award here:

Reason to breastfeed #17: much easier to read, during. Especially with the first baby. Well, with the second, too, but then you’re reading to the first “baby.”
ali, lol, so true. ;^)
