A Wrinkle in Time - Book Review
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle
“It was a dark and stormy night.”
No kidding, that is actually how this book begins. No, it is not a total cheese-fest, I promise.
“A Wrinkle in Time’ is the story of siblings Meg and Charles Wallace Murray, whose father has been missing far too long. With the help of Calvin O’Keefe and Mrs Which, Mrs Who, and Mrs Whatsit, they go off to rescue their dad.
This is a great youth’s science fiction story, full of ‘tessering’ (which enables one to travel faster than the speed of light), interesting ‘persons,’ and other planets. I love this book, as well as the rest of L’Engle’s “Time Quartet.”

I have this in my tbr pile. I think I might bump it up to read soon.
I remember loving this when I read it as a child — the whole series.
This book was my introduction to science fiction, a wonderful world of books, imagination, and finally, publication of my own science fiction short stories.
When I was in law school at Columbia in NYC, I used the libaray at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine as a quiet place to study. It was open to the public but there was seldom anyone else there. However, there was a glass-walled office near the front that was used by one woman, whom I assumed worked for the church because she was always typing away. I said “Hi” to her on a daily basis but we never talked. It was years later that I learned it was Madeline L’Engle.
The third one in the Time Quartet, A Swiftly Tilting Planet is one of my favorite books of all time, although I loved A Wrinkle in Time too. My copy had a cover with a face with glowing red eyes that freaked me out to no end.
This is one of my all-time favorites. I liked the first three books in the series a lot, A Swiftly Tilting planet not so much, and just couldn’t get into Many Waters.
I just read this book for the first time a few months ago and really enjoyed it!
Have you read A Ring of Endless Light and Troubling a Star? I love her Austen series!
Personally, I’ve never read the book, have never liked any type of science fiction, but I have great respect for the book and the author. Both my daughter and granddaughter read and loved the book and its sequels; contributed to their love of reading, and that’s always a big plus.
One of my favorite books as a kid and the one that got me started on “heavier” science fiction. I read the whole series but this is the one that I have re-read (and I rarely re-read just for myself).
Hehe. I was discussing this novel earlier this semester with a friend of mine. It was actually one of his favorites when he was a kid.
I’ve been meaning to read it again, but I haven’t had a chance to get around to it.
