I went through a phase of borrowing Steinbeck books from my school library when I started at secondary school (that's 13 if you're not a UK-ite) and he just transported me away. I remember getting right-royally told off for reading East of Eden inside my French text book at the back of French class ... ah, happy memories! I love Steinbeck.
