Tuesday Thingers – Favorite Authors
Today’s Question: Favorite Authors. Who do you have named in your LT account as favorite authors? Why did you choose them? How many people share your choices? Can you share a picture of one of them?
I have thirteen favorite authors listed. These are definitely not all of my favorite authors, but they are great authors who I either added randomly when I thought of them, or when I happened to click on their LT author page. I alphabetical order:
- Davd Boling
- Doug Dorst
- David Ebershoff
- Margaret George
- Sana Krasikov
- Jhumpa Lahiri
- C.S. Lewis
- Jean Plaidy
- Michael Pollan
- Ariel Sabar
- J Scott Savage
- Dr. Seuss
- John Steinbeck
I add someone as one of my favorite authors if REALLY love one of their books…and if I happen to think about the favorite authors feature. Because I have been reading lots of ARCs by lots of first time authors, I am the only person who has ‘favorited’ quite a few of these authors. I’m not going to actually count how many people share my favorites because a LOT of people have favorited Steinbeck and Lewis. Jhumpa Lahiri, Margaret George, and Jean Plaidy are pretty popular also, as is Michael Pollan. Evidently I have an odd collection of favorites, though, because only four people share three or more (actually only three, nobody has more) of my favorite authors.

Interesting – I’ve only heard of about half of your favorites! Guess I need to work on stepping outside my comfort zone a little more often.

Interesting list. Did you add Sara Krasikov after “One More Year”?

I didn’t have any authors listed, so I added a few while I was half asleep this morning. I may look at my list later and wonder what I was thinking.

Lisa – Yes, I think that’s her only book to date, but I really loved those short stories.

I love Steinbeck. I know everyone and their brother does, but it’s because he’s amazing!

Sarah – Yah, hello, “East of Eden,” anyone?

I didn’t even think to add children’s authors! Dr. Seuss is a great pick.

I love Steinbeck. I went through a phase of borrowing Steinbeck books from my school library when I started at secondary school (that’s 13 if you’re not a UK-ite) and he just transported me away. I remember getting right-royally told off for reading East of Eden inside my French text book at the back of French class … ah, happy memories!

I stuck to modern authors – my list would be a lot longer if I went back to the classics.

East of Eden is one of my a-HA books. I read it at the perfect moment in my life, and it’s stuck with me ever since.

Since all this Steinbeck love is floating around, I’m going to have to read more of his books. I read The Grapes of Wrath in high school and I don’t think I got it as much as I would now.

I love Jhumpa Lahiri, (and isn’t she beautiful) but I’ve only read Interpreter of Maladies! I feel like I need to read at least one more of hers before I add her to my favorites.

I should have Steinbeck and Lahiri on my list too (and Dr. Seuss!). I don’t have anyone listed yet, actually; must get to work on personalizing my LT profile page!

I haven’t updated my authors since I first joined. Steinbeck is on my list. I’ll have to work on mine and then check to see how many of my friends share authors.
Meghan, I’d suggest reading To a God Unknown by Steinbeck. It’s absolutely fabulous.

We share a couple favorites!

Interesting variety – Jhumpa Lahiri is one of my favorite contemporary authors. I especially like her short stories.
