I think three memes are fine as long as you read and review as much as you do. So you’re in good shape. I can’t imagine doing four though!

I think that three will be my limit as well. As much as I wish I’d been more in a writing mood last week, it did help to take the week off last week. Book reviews are the reason why we do what we do, but, as a reader of blogs, it nice to have something other than reviews to read from time to time as well. I think memes and reviews can bring a good balance.

I enjoy the different opinions you get from memes, but I have to agree that too many memes on a blog is not appealing. Although as a new blogger I find that participating in memes is helping me get the hang of blogging, and building my confidence in terms of posting reviews.

I also just like doing a couple per week. Sunday Salon is my favorite to read and write because it can be such a mixed bag. It most closely resembles the beginning of every book club meeting I’ve ever been too…without the wine.

At my personal blog (which is about 50-75 percent books anyway) I participate when I have something to contribute. Sunday Salon is the only I try to do every single week.

At the Friendly Book Nook…we participate when we are low in content.

Let memes work fo you and not the other way around!

Yeah, I feel like Sunday Salon is really more of a “ring”—or salon!—than a meme. There is no topic and it’s just a good time for me to wind down the week and figure out what I’m going to do in the days to come. I like the memes I do participate in but I wish I had more time for real posts of my own!

I wouldn’t want my blog to get carried away by memes either. The only time my reading capacity goes down is when Denis and I go on holiday, so normally I’m never at a loss for a book to write about.

Sunday Salon may be one that I may eventually do because like you said, it’s low pressure and you are just writing about what you are reading. That appeals to me. I tend to not return to blogs which are completely overrun with memes and no other content.

I agree with you – memes are fun, but they’re not the primary purpose for my blogging. If they started to overtake the review/book portions for me, I’d have to cut back too. It’s not a problem this summer because I’m reading so much, but it is a thought for the fall when I’ll be much busier with non-book-related activities.
