BTT: Libraries

btt pictureWhether you usually read off of your own book pile or from the library shelves NOW, chances are you started off with trips to the library. (There’s no way my parents could otherwise have kept up with my book habit when I was 10.) So … What is your earliest memory of a library? Who took you? Do you have you any funny/odd memories of the library?

I don’t have a lot of specific memories about the library, although I know we used to go quite often when I was young – before 3rd grade, I would say.  I do remember a couple of things, however.

When I was in 2nd grade or so, my very favorite book in the entire world was evidently “Where the Red Fern Grows.”

I would literally check this book out of the library every other time we went.  We should have just bought it!  Recently, in a fit of nostalgia, I got it through Bookmooch, although I haven’t had a chance to read it yet.

I also remember one time, I have no idea what grade I was in, my whole class at school walked to the library, probably a 2-3 mile walk.  We were told not to check out more books than we could carry back.  Yah.  As if I listened to that.  That was a long, hard walk home for an elementary school student.
