I've been using clear contact paper for my bookmarks. Until I get a personal laminator, it's cheap and doesn't require a trip to Kinkos (the scraps also keep the kids busy so I can actually be crafty with them around for at least 10 minutes). And I love Carrie's suggestion. I had no idea there was such a thing.

Its funny that this post coincides with a <a href="http://papercuts.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/06/10/book-finds/" rel="nofollow">similar post</a> on the New York Times Book Blog

Not to be a bookmark snob or anything ;), but most of the time, I don't use bookmarks, I just like to figure out where I was and go from there. Even if I'm not exactly at the same point, if I missed something the first time around, I can pick up on it the second time.

Yet once in a while, I do use the odd receipts, scraps of paper like others have mentioned. As for your bookmark, that is one I'd save. That is really, well, precious.

I've taken to printing free bookmarks from different online sites onto card stock. With a house full of readers, we go through them like crazy. Of course, in a pinch, a kleenex will suffice - unused, of course. It's also handy if the book is a tearjerker. :)

That is hilarious! I use post it notes, receipts, odd pieces of paper, just about anything other than bending the page over. I've recently made two bookmarks that I've been using. I keep meaning to take pictures. I need to do that post those. They're no where near as precious as yours though. :)

I use anything, although right now I'm using the bookmarks that J. Scott Savage sent with his Farworld book.

As for things I've found... umm most recently a baseball card, and a sticker of a blue cartoon girl shouting something either in Chinese or Japanese.

Aw! That's a cute note he left you. I use anything as a bookmark, any scrap of paper would do. As for the weirdest thing I've found? I was at the library and picked up a book. One time I found a 20 dollar bill in one of the books, the other time I found a weird drawing.

I use just about whatever is handy, but I was wondering about what other people do as well. I've got a survey going on over on my blog on this topic - please stop by and vote when you get a chance!

Hahahahaha! This is not odd, but I often find old movie ticket stubs I've used as bookmarks. And class notes that would have been really helpful for an exam the semester before (need to be better at keeping track of those).
